powder coatings offer excellent application and performance characteristics.
Americoats tightly controlled particle size distribution provides extremely
good first pass transfer efficiencies and edge coverage, along with
the smoothest film available. Epoxy powder coatings exhibit inherent
toughness, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, flexibility, adhesion
and abrasion resistance. Epoxy powder coatings should not be used for
exterior applications. Ultraviolet radiation will cause chalking.
They
are available in a wide range of colors and glosses. Epoxy powders perform well over cold rolled steel, castings, hot rolled steel and aluminum substrates suitably pretreated. Epoxies are available in both smooth and textured appearances. The recommended dry film thickness is 2.0 ‚ 3.0 mils. Typical Uses for Epoxy: Suitable
applications for Epoxies are power tools, oil filters automotive and
aircraft engine components, garden tools, fire extinguishers, wire
goods, toolboxes, racking and shelving, store fixtures and displays,
to name a few. As
always, we recommend you consult your ECL representative and perform
your own physical testing to determine the suitability of a product
for your requirements. See health, safety and storage guide for further information.

Coating Performance of Epoxy:
Sample
test results typical of 2 - 2.5 mils applied to 24 gauge Bonderite 1000
panels. Please refer to the specific formula data sheet for physical
properties. Metal electronic enclosures for business machines, electrical enclosures, office furniture, appliances, tools, automotive components, shelving brackets, and most OEM metal products. Steel and aluminum, clean and chemically pretreated. 1.25 ‚ 1.85 H ‚ 4H 5B Less than 70 mg loss per 1000cycles per 1KG load with CS-17 wheel 1/8 inch mandrel, no cracking, no peeling 160 inch pounds/160 inch pounds 13. Solvent Resistance: 50 double rubs. No effect is defined as no permanent softening of film and/or permanent change in film appearance a) MEK - no effect 14. Humidity resistance (100%): 1000 hours exposure: no blisters, no corrosion 15. Salt Spray ASTM B117: 1000 hours exposure: no blisters, no corrosion. |
Method of application:
Manual or automated corona or tribo charged electrostatic spray equipment. Use of a fluidizer is recommended. Consult with your technical representative if you have any questions regarding application equipment Smooth Finish or Texture Coat: The
appearance is determined by formulation. However film thickness can
have an effect on texture appearances. Consult your ECL representative
to determine the suitability of a product for your requirements.
Typical Cure Cycle for Epoxy: Recommended cure schedule is 10 minutes @ 380ƒF, peak metal temp. The cure range for Epoxy Powder is from 20 minutes at 350ƒF to 5 minutes at 400ƒF peak metal temperature. Faster cure formulations are available. Epoxy powder will discolor when exposed to over-bake conditions. Above temperatures given in Fahrenheit. In the above graph, the solid area depicts the cure cycle for standard powder coatings. The shaded area shows the range available for specially formulated low-bake powders. Dwell temperature will depend on the oven conditions: TIME, TEMPERATURE, and MASS. |
