GENERAL INFORMATION

PHYSICAL PROPERTIES

APPLICATION

Urachem, a two-component polyurethane enamel, is suitable for use on a variety of substrates that require superior appearance and durability. Urachem will resist chemical or solvent exposure without film degradation. Urachem is recommended for both metal and plastic substrates used in the electronic enclosure, medical and office equipment manufacturing industries. Parts which are pre-assembled, too large for baking ovens, or substrates that cannot tolerate high baking temperatures are suitable candidates for Urachem which will cure at ambient room temperature or by force drying 20 - 30 minutes @ 1250 F - 1800 F.

Urachem can be applied directly to chemically pretreated steel. W6583 WB Wash Primer should be used on Yellow/clear Zinc Plate or any chromate aluminum if aged longer than 24 hours. Wash Primer 2035-534 or Tu-Com Chromate Primer R1953 must be applied if no chemical pretreatment is available. Structural plastics such as ABS (CYCOLACTM), Polycarbonate (LEXANTM), and PPO (NORYLTM) that have been injected, foamed or thermo-formed should be clean and free from mold release. Wash with isopropyl alcohol or other mild wash solution.

Urachem can be textured or applied as a smooth coat. Urachem is custom-color matched and formulated to your specifications. When catalyzed with R1100 Exterior Catalyst, Urachem is an excellent coating for exterior use due to its exceptional resistance to weathering, superior adhesion, gloss retention, non-marring properties and flexibility. Please notify Eastern Chem-Lac if exterior exposure is expected when ordering.

MIXING: Urachem is a two-component polyurethane. All ratios are measured by volume. Urachem Catalyst R500 is recommended for interior use only. Use admixed paint within 4 hours. Use Urachem Exterior Catalyst R1100 for exterior exposure (Note ratio change when using Urachem Exterior Catalyst R1100). Please notify Eastern Chem-Lac when exterior conditions will be encountered.

MIX RATIO:

Interior applications -

6 parts Urachem paint: 1 part Urachem Catalyst R500: 3 parts W283 Reducer

Exterior applications-

4 parts Urachem paint: 1 part Urachem Exterior Catalyst R1100: 2 parts W283

BASE COAT: Apply smooth wet coat approximately 3.0 mils wet allow 15-20 minutes flash-off prior to texture coat or force drying.

TEXTURE COAT: Use same admixed paint for texture, adjust pressures accordingly to match texture pattern. Allow 15-20 minutes flash-off before force dry.

PRESSURE:

Base Coat - Fluid pressure 8-15 PSI

Atomizing pressure 45-55 PSI

Text. Coat - Fluid pressure 8-15 PSI

Atomizing pressure 10-20 PSI

Pressures will vary according to spray equipment and part configuration.

DRYING TIMES:

Flash-off prior to texture coat or force-dry: 15-20 minutes

Dry to handle: Overnight or 20 minutes @ 1500 F

Dry to package or secondary operations: Overnight or 40 minutes @ 1500 F - always allow parts to cool prior to secondary processing

Do not pack in plastic bags

CLEAN-UP: Use lacquer thinner or #928 Washing Thinner
