Lo-Cure is a single component acrylic utilizing water-borne resins
specifically formulated to meet existing state and federal volatile organic
compound regulations nationwide. Its application characteristics allow
its usage on a variety of substrates with results similar to those of
solvent borne coatings. In most cases, direct replacement can take place.
Water Lo-Cure is suitable for various substrates that cannot tolerate
high baking temperatures, such as structural plastics, zinc or aluminum
die castings, partial or pre-assembled products. Water Lo-Cure can be applied directly to all types of plastics commonly used in the electronic industry. Metal substrates should be thoroughly cleaned and properly pre treated, either iron phosphate for steel or clear or yellow chromate on aluminum, prior to painting. Water Lo-Cure cures either at room temperature or by force drying at 150íF for (30) minutes. Time and temperature can vary according to substrate tolerances. Water Lo-Cure is custom engineered to your specifications and can be textured using standard air pressurized spray equipment. It is also available as a self-texturing coating (single step application). Gloss range is 0í-50í using a 60í gloss meter.
CAUTION: AVOID FREEZING. CLEAN UP: Clean up all equipment as soon as possible with water. |
Physical
and chemical tests were performed on "Bonderlite 1000" steel
panels. Water Lo-Cure was force dried 30 minutes at 150íF and followed
by a 10-day cure period at room temperature. 1. Recommended Usage: Decorative coating for O.E.M. Equipment 2. Applicable Substrates: Pretreated steel and aluminum; clear/gold chromate; zinc/cadmium/nickel plating with chromate. Structural plastics-(some light sanding may be required). 3. Method of Application: Convention Spray, air atomized. 4. Solids by Volume: 30-35% 5. Weight per Gallon: 9.5-11 lbs. 6. V.O.C. Content: 1.5-1.8 lbs/gal (less water) 7. Solids by Weight: 42-52% 8. Pencil Hardness: H-2H 9. Cross Hatch Adhesion: 5B 10. Taber Abrasion: (CS 10 with 1000 gm load per 1000 revs): less than 100 mg. 11. Impact (direct/indirect): 40" lbs/40" lbs. 12. Flexibility: 1/8" pass, no cracking. 13. Solvent Resistance: 4-hour spot test under watch glass. 1-hour recovery period. Effect is defined as permanent staining of film and /or reduction in gloss. NOTE: Items 4, 5, 6, 7 will vary with color and gloss.

Use
conventional air, airless or isolated electrostatic spray equipment; stainless
steel is highly recommended. BASE COAT Fluid pressure and air pressure will vary according to nozzle combination and equipment. Viscosity #3 Zahn cup: 20-25 seconds. Reduction: 5% reduction with tap water if required (20:1). Apply smooth coat: allow a minimum 15 minutes flash-off or pre-bake 5 minutes at 150íF before applying texture coat. If smooth finish coat is desired, flash-off 15 minutes then force dry 20 minutes at 150í-180íF or air-dry overnight. TEXTURE COAT Fluid pressure and air pressure will vary according to nozzle combinations and equipment as well as type of texture pattern desired. Viscosity: Use as supplied Flash-off: 15-20 minutes prior to force-drying 150í-180íF for 20 minutes. CURE TIMES Water Lo-Cure will cure at ambient room temperatures. Five (5) days minimum will be needed to achieve total cure. Air dry schedule: Force Dry Schedule: Complete cure: approximately 5 days. This time frame will vary according to ambient temperatures and humidity.
Times and temperatures can vary according to substrate tolerances but it is recommended not to exceed 200íF for an extended period of time. NOTE: there is a direct relationship between increased air temperatures coupled with air movement shorter flash-off times. Strategic placement of fans and heat will help eliminate minimize flash-off times especially during humid days.
