Solar Chem Black is an anti-reflective flat black liquid coating engineered
for spray application to a variety of substrates. WB Solar Chem Black
provides a flat black appearance, which absorbs light with no reflectance
regardless of the incidence angle of the light. WB Solar Chem Black can
be cleaned of surface dust and contamination by washing with a mild soap
and water solution and/or mild solvent wash. It is suggested that one
use a camel hair brush to avoid lint/dust contamination. WB Solar Chem Black is primarily used in the optical industry where "light-tight" situations are required. Its low out-gassing properties make it ideal for electro-optical instrumentation, defense systems, instrument dials, aircraft, satellites, or lasers, as well as a solar absorbing coating for thermal usages. WB Solar Chem Black will adhere well to a variety of degreased and chemically pretreated metals. Formula I.D. #: W3700 |
Physical
and chemical tests were done on "Bonderite 1000" steel panels,
iron phosphate and baked 30 minutes @ 325íF. Adhesion tests were performed on appropriate substrates. 1. Recommended Usage: Wherever anti-reflection or "light tight" situations are required; electro-optical instrument manufacturing. 2. Applicable substrates: Pretreated steel and aluminum; clear or gold zinc/cadmium/nickel plated steel; stainless steel and copper 3. Methods of Application: Air Pressurized Spray 4. Solids by volume: 40.4% 5. Weight per Gallon: 9.7 lbs./gallon 6. V.O.C. Content As Received: 2.7 lbs./gallon (dry) 1.8 lbs./gallon (wet) 7. Solids by Weight: 51.5 % 8. Pencil Hardness: H 9. Cross Hatch Adhesion: 5B 10. Flexibility: 1/8" mandrel bend 11. Impact (direct/indirect): 50/50-inch lbs. 12. Use
of conventional air pressurized spray equipment or low air/airless is
recommended for best results. Metal substrates should be cleaned and chemically
pretreated. SMOOTH COAT Air pressure (Conventional air pressurized spray equipment): 50 psi approximately. Spray Viscosity: #2 Zahn cup 30-35 seconds @ 68íF: Reduction: 4 parts W3700: 2 › parts water- mix well. Apply Smooth Coat: First coats should be applied smooth and wet. Do not exceed more than 0.8 mils wet. Allow short flash-off of one or two minutes and repeat. Second or final coat should be smooth and wet in order to avoid dry spray. Try not to spot spray areas as this leads to over spray in other areas. Final dry film not to exceed 1.0 mils. BAKE CYCLE Bake times: 30 minutes minimum @ 325íF (substrate temperature) NOTE: it is imperative in order to assure optimum properties that baking time commences when substrate temperature reaches 325íF. This is especially important when baking large mass items such as castings. Additional times will be required. Ask your technical representative for additional information. |
