Water Based Wash Primer
Purpose: Available in standard green, W6583, or white, W9290, WB Wash Primer is a low VOC tie-coat (< 0.6 Lbs per gal.) in a single package. This product is used primarily as an adhesion promoter where pretreatment is not an option, fast recoat times are a must, or air regulations do not permit the use of standard industrial wash primer. Reduce with water and use this low VOC product for degreased bare or plated metal applications. Recoat with solvent or waterbase topcoats. WB Wash Primers will replace conventional high VOC industrial wash primers in most OEM applications.
Recommended substrates: clean aluminum (smooth, mill finish, gold and clear chromate) ; clean steel (smooth, matte finish, gold and bright zinc plate) ; galvanneal.
Mix Ratio: reduce as needed, up to 8% parts by volume with tap water.
use of Zahn cups is not recommended
Start with 15 parts primer to 1 part tap water or ~ 7 oz (fl) per gallon
Always Mix well before and after reduction
Application: Use conventional air pressurized, suction feed, or HVLP spray equipment. Stainless steel is recommended for all waterbase applications. Fluid pressure and air pressure will vary according to nozzle combination and equipment; note recommended nozzle size 0.043" ‚ 0.070"
Do not apply any wash primer for wet hiding.
a pencil mark on any wash primed part will be clearly visible through the dry film
Conventional wet films are 1.0 ‚ 2.0mils.
Recommended DFT (dry film thickness) is 0.2 ‚ 0.5 mils
WB Wash primer does not have a potlife (no waste factor).
Recoat Schedule (will vary with shop conditions):
ambient room temperature: 10 ‚ 30 min.
Flash-off: 10 min. @ RT and Force Dry 10 minutes @ 150 F
Coverage @ 15:1 reduction
… 1369 sq. feet per gal (coating) per 0.3 mils DFT @ 100% transfer efficiency
